Privacy Policy

Popup Detective is provided by Fortcraft. This policy explains what the Android app checks, what it saves, and what it does not do.

Information used on the phone

Popup Detective uses Android Usage Access after you turn it on in phone Settings. Android can then tell the app which apps were active and when they were active. Popup Detective uses a short recent time window to suggest apps that may be related to an unwanted popup.

The app may also read limited information about those recent apps. This can include the app name, internal app identity, signing-certificate fingerprint, app version, installation time, installation source when available, system-app status, and whether the app can act as a browser or Home app.

Popup Detective does not read screen contents, messages, web pages, photos, contacts, location, microphone, or notification text.

Information saved on the phone

The app may save:

• Settings and setup choices.
• Trusted app identities.
• Up to 5, 10, or 20 shortened check summaries, based on your choice.
• Up to 100 optional private app notes.

A private note contains an internal app identity, signing-certificate fingerprint, app version, broad reason, confidence choice, and a time rounded to the hour.

Raw Android usage-event streams are not saved. Guided Help answers remain only in memory for the current app session. App backup is turned off.

You can delete past checks and private notes inside the app. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it removes the remaining locally stored information.

Network use and sharing

This version of Popup Detective does not request Android Internet permission. It does not upload, sell, rent, or share app activity or private notes. It has no advertising, analytics, account system, or community-report upload.

The optional Read aloud feature selects only a voice that Android marks as not needing a network connection. If an offline voice is not ready, the app does not read the question aloud.

Notifications and shortcuts

If you enable the optional quick notice, the app asks for Android notification permission. The notice, Home-screen widget, app shortcut, and Quick Settings button only open a check that you requested. They do not mean that Popup Detective automatically detected a popup.

App removal and limits

Popup Detective provides timing-based clues. It cannot prove which app caused a popup or prove that an app is harmful. Android always controls removal confirmation. Popup Detective never removes an app automatically.

Android and phone makers may provide incomplete recent-app information. Work or school profiles may be outside the app's view.

Children

Popup Detective is a general device-help tool. It is not directed to children. This version transmits no user data off the device.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the effective date above will be updated. A future online or community feature would require a revised policy and a clear choice before any report leaves the phone.
